My recommendations for San Diego activities

I have found that the people who have lived in San Diego for a long time don't seem to do the special
activities that make San Diego so fun.  We have been here now over 11 years but still do the things that are sometimes reserved for the tourists.  Here are my favorites.
An Evening at Humphreys.
Make sure to check out the schedule for upcoming shows at Humphreys at Shelter Island www.humphreysconcerts.com  It is a fantastic venue that offers outdoor seating with a view of the Bay.  We usually get there early and go into the bar for drinks and snacks.  If we are early enough, we go over to "the wall" and sit so that we can make direct eye contact with the singer.  It's a one of a kind experience.  The last couple of times we sat by Bill Walton.  One of our favorites from The Portland Trailblazers.
Hornblower Dining Cruise
We love the dinner cruise with awesome views of the San Diego skyline.  The food is great with a dinner buffet, live music and dancing.   It boards at 6:30 and ends around 10:00 pm.  It is under $100 per person and runs all year.  https://www.hornblower.com/
Old Town Trolley Tours We took the family on the Old Town Trolley tour and really enjoyed it.  There are lots of locations to board and we chose the one on Island in The Gaslamp.  The driver was talented and gave us an open air tour of the city.  We went to Barrio Logan, over the bridge to Coronado, the Convention Center and ended up in the Mexican Old Town.  You can get on and off as many times as you want and there is another trolley that comes every 15 minutes.  You get 1 free admission for each paid one if you are a resident.  Cost is around $35.   It's a continuous 25 mile loop with 10 stops. https://www.trolleytours.com/san-diego
The Balboa Park Tower Tour

https://www.balboapark.org/attractions/california-tower The California Building in Balboa Park that is the home of The Museum of Man now features a hike up to the top levels of the tower.  It was constructed in 1915 for the Panama-California Exposition and has been closed to the public for over 80 years.  It's about a 45 minute climb to the top with unsurpassed views and some history given to you by a guide.  The $22 fee gets you into the Museum of Man also.   I was surprised to find out that the freeway under the bridge was originally water with boat rides. After the tour we enjoyed a great meal at The Prado.  It was great sitting under the outdoor canopy with the view of the park.  We strolled through the Conservatory which was filled with blooming orchids and a Koi pond entrance.
Pacific Beach Trip
Our find here is JRDN restaurant in Tower 23 Hotel http://www.t23hotel.com/dine/  Parking is always a challenge at the beach.  You can valet park here for free and then go down to the beach after.  Outside dining on the boardwalk is especially wonderful for breakfast.  We take our beach chairs and go about once a week.  We are going to invest in a beach umbrella because it's been pretty hot!
Off road Biking
Our absolute favorite activity is a bike ride to Point Loma Fish House http://pointlomaseafoods.com/freshfish.php  You can get on the concrete path starting at The Hilton and ride off road all the way.  We love the fish sandwiches there and will pick up some fresh fish to take home to cook.  If we want a shorter ride we stop at The Fish Market at 750 N. Harbor Dr. and just pop into the fish counter and ask for a pint of Clam Chowder and Bread.  It is really cheap and fits into our bike basket.
Make sure and let me know if you have any special discoveries.  I love living and working in San Diego.  marsha@sellsandiego.com
