10 Reasons to Retire in Downtown San Diego 2017

I have been getting numerous inquiries about Downtown San Diego as a place to "land".  Because of the increasing Baby Boomer population, they are looking for retirement spots.  Yes, you get quality not quantity in Downtown San Diego but isn't that what it's all about?  I am reposting this previous blog because it hits alot of the right reasons.
When my husband got ready to retire we checked out several different West Coast spots.  We come from Oregon and wanted warm weather.  Although we could get a well priced town home in Vegas or a casita on the golf course in Arizona, we chose to Retire in Downtown San Diego.  It is true that cost per square foot is more but do you really need the space?  We sold our Oregon home furnished and hit the road.  We have never looked back.  Here are just some of the reasons we are Retiring in Downtown San Diego.
1.  Walk ability
We wanted to be able to ditch the car.  If needed we could live quite well here without a vehicle.  There are 4 grocery stores downtown as well as a multitude of restaurant delivery services.  We walk to get our hair cut, teeth cleaned, doctor office, optometrist, jewelry repair, notary and office supplies. Downtown San Diego has everything you need within a short walk.
2.  Bike ability
When you're retired, you will find biking an easy on the joints exercise that is sure to please.  Downtown San Diego offers some of the most scenic paved, off road bike trails there are.  There is even discussion of a hanging bike path coming at the base of The Coronado Bridge.
3.  Low energy bills Because of the temperature constantly being in the 70's, we find we seldom need air and never need heat.  Open the windows and feel the breeze.
4.  Lots of activities Our favorites are the Summer Symphony that is an outdoor venue with table service and hosts a multitude of well known artists backed up by the San Diego Symphony.  Our last one was Boz Scaggs.  The show ends with a fireworks display.
5.  Dog friendly Many retirees ask me about bringing their pup into a downtown condo.  This town is geared for the dog.  There are lots of nearby pet stops.  Many of the restaurants allow you to bring your dog to the outside areas.
6. Get on the Water Every so often we just take the ferry over to Coronado for the fun 20 minute ride on the bay.  You can always find a friend that has a sailboat here and can be out on the water quickly.
7. Watch the surfers  We also enjoy going to Mission and Pacific Beaches.  They are about 15 minutes away and we take our music and beach chairs and veg out.
8. The Awesome Airport  I remember when driving to the airport took us longer than getting to our destination.  Sometimes we can see our son's plane coming in from our balcony and then we leave to pick him up.  About a 7 minute ride.
9. Condo Services  Did you know that many of the downtown San Diego condos are geared for total service.  Salt water swimming pools, spas, handball courts, massage rooms, guest suites, concierge services, fitness centers, movie rooms, event rooms, package delivery, dry cleaning, valet parking, and dog walkers.  There are many levels of services for your review.
10.  The number one reason to Retire in Downtown San Diego is for The People.  You are in a vertical subdivision where many of the people have the same interests that you do but are from all cultures and countries.  Socialize as little or as much as you want.  There is something for everyone here.  It is truly a retirees paradise.  For more information go to my website at www.marshashepard.com or contact me anytime at 619-995-1520
